Through our global Environmental Management System (EMS), Modine registers its manufacturing facilities to ISO14001:2004 standards, helping to ensure that we identify environmental opportunities and implement improvements to reduce Modine's environmental footprint.
Working to Decrease Toxic Chemical Usage
Modine's commitment to environmental stewardship is reflected in its reporting of chemical releases as monitored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Toxic Chemical Release Inventory program. The Company's U.S. locations decreased their reported chemical releases by 98.8% during the ten-year period 2006 to 2016, far surpassing the national trend. This long-term and sustained improvement is the result of Modine’s transition to more environmentally friendly manufacturing technologies and raw materials.
Modine reduces environmental impacts through a continued emphasis on minimizing waste. Our waste minimization program was established in 1990 to reduce all production by-products, including: hazardous wastes, non-hazardous wastes, wastewater pollutants, air emissions, scrap metal, and trash.
Modine built on its successful history of environmental stewardship in fiscal year 2015-2016 by establishing plant-specific objectives for the reduction of carbon emissions, waste, air emissions and water use. In fiscal 2017, our carbon emissions, resulting from our on-site use of natural gas and propane, and from our use of electricity generated by off-site sources, was flat compared to the previous year. We will continue to identify and implement carbon reduction opportunities over the upcoming fiscal year. For the current fiscal year, Modine facilities have again systematically assessed their manufacturing processes and have identified specific goals for reducing their environmental impacts.
Many customers look to us to help them address their commitment to mitigating the effects of climate change and protecting the environment. Our “green” applications reflect Modine’s sense of environmental responsibility and technical leadership.
We continue to benefit from the significant correlation between global market trends focused on the environment and our products.
